Personal Profile:
I engaged mainly in the study on molecular mechanism of rice reproductive isolation and perenniality, providing theoretical basis for breeding perennial distant hybrid rice. I published a paper in Science magazine, revealing a novel reproductive isolation mechanism at rice S5 locus that is inconsistent with previous viewpoints, and it was rated as “very good” by the famous international biomedical post-publication evaluation system F1000Prime. At present, key genes that interact with S5 have been identified, providing a foundation for elucidating the molecular mechanism by which S5 contributes to hybrid sterility in Rice.
Recently, we have made a breakthrough in the research of perennial rice. For the first time, we have cloned rhizome-regulating genes of perennial rice, cracking the problem unsolved in the world for decades: identification and cloning of rhizome-regulating genes of perennial plants. We rapidly domesticated pest-resistant perennial wild rice by using gene editing technology, to help rice production in the “hollow villages” with few young farmers.
I was selected as an excellent expert in Guangxi of China in 2018, and was selected as an outstanding scholar in colleges and universities of Guangxi in 2016. I am the academic leader of "plant molecular biology" in Guangxi University, and a board member of Guangxi Society for Biochemistry and molecular biology.
